Hike to the Kapelleralm

  • approx. 500 metres of ascent
  • approx. 2 hours uphill
  • approx. 10 kilometres

The trail begins at the edge of Embach. Quiet. Well marked. For anyone looking for a day without the crowds.

At the top, the Kapelleralm awaits at 1,510 m, along with a well-earned snack. Homemade bread. Stillness. And all around, the mountain landscape of the Hohe Tauern.

Sometimes that's all it takes.

Hike to the Speicherteich

  • approx. 350 metres of ascent
  • approx. 1.5 hours uphill
  • approx. 5 kilometres

The trail starts right behind the hotel. No transfer, no detour. Just start walking.

Through the mountain forest up to the Plettsaukopf, home to the largest reservoir on the Schmittenhöhe. Water, stillness, sweeping views. And if you're not in the mood for the descent afterwards, the gondola brings you back down, free of charge with the Summer Card.

Three-Peak Hike Maishofen, Schwalbenwand

  • approx. 1,100 metres of ascent
  • approx. 5 hours uphill
  • approx. 10 kilometres

The hike starts at Schloss Kammer in Maishofen. First through the forest, then across blooming mountain pastures. At some point the terrain opens up, and suddenly you're standing at the summit cross at 1,895 m.

If you're not done yet, keep going. Twenty minutes to the main peak of the Schwalbenwand at 2,011 m. Hohe Tauern, Lake Zell, Steinernes Meer, all at once.

Physically demanding.

Three Brothers Hike

  • approx. 1,200 metres of ascent
  • approx. 6 hours uphill
  • approx. 12 kilometres

Three peaks. One ridge. Breitkopf, Schaflkopf, Stolzkopf.

The trail climbs from the forest road above Bruck. Via the Erlhofalm, through the Heubergscharte, up onto the ridge. What follows demands absolute surefootedness and a head for heights.

Anyone who takes on the ridge won't regret it. The view of the Hohe Tauern and Lake Zell justifies every step.

Hundstein via the Tödlingalm

  • approx. 1,080 metres of ascent
  • approx. 5.5 hours uphill
  • approx. 16 kilometres

The hike starts at the Gasthof Waldheim in Thumersbach. Steep, through the forest, past the Tödlingalm, on to the Hochalm.

And then: 2,117 m, the Hundstein, the highest peak of the Salzburg Schiefer Alps.

At the top, the Statzerhaus awaits. Großglockner, Hochkönig, Steinernes Meer, and Lake Zell far below in the valley. A panorama the mountain has earned.

Autumn Farmers' Festival in the Region

When the cows return from the mountain pastures to the valley, they're crowned with flowers, ribbons and bells. The Almabtrieb is no spectacle. It's tradition. Real Pinzgau everyday life, experienced once a year by everyone.

Around Zell am See and Kaprun, the Salzburg Bauernherbst fills the weeks until the end of October with village festivals, markets, craft and music. Bauernkrapfen, fresh cheese, Most straight from the farm. Folk music that doesn't sound staged. And moments you simply can't plan.
