In winter it all goes white in Zell am See-Kaprun; a glistening winter wonderland. Whether it is cross-country skiing on the flat, snow-shoe hiking and tour skiing on the slopes or even tobogganing – you certainly won’t get bored here with us!

Hiking in the winter

Whether you opt to head on a snow-shoe hike on the mountain or winter hiking on the prepared routes, you can relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. The region is also perfectly suite to Nordic Walking – a tour around Lake Zeller on a lovely winter’s day is dreamy. There is also the opportunity to head out on a guided snow-shoe hike or on a winter hike with the ski schools or head to Schmitten.


Cross-country skiing


As far as the eye can see, the 40km of cross-country slopes meander through Zell am See-Kaprun and the neighbouring districts. In Schmitten there is a wonderful altitude slope around the Plettsaukopf reservoir – which has views across the entire region! On the Kitzsteinhorn there is an altitude slope up at around 3000m – just right for some ambitious training.

Maybe you would prefer to glide across the ice? Then you ought to give ice skating or ice hockey a go. Depending on the temperature, you can practice these winter sports on frozen Lake Zeller, in the ice rink in Zell or on the natural ice rink in Kaprun.


Zell am See-Kaprun: Tobogganing fun for young and old alike

Tobogganing is just great – whether it is during the day with all the family or together as a couple in the evening by the moonlight; fun is guaranteed. Between the Kitzsteinhorn and the Schmittenhoehe there are several toboggan runs waiting for you. Enjoy the illuminated 1.5km toboggan run from Köhlergraben through Schmittental. A bus takes you up to the start! You can also toboggan at the Guggenbichl snack station – a route which 2km in length and open until 11 p.m.!
