The New areitXpress

Just a couple of hundred metres away from the Sporthotel Alpenblick, the new Areitbahn cable station – the areitXpress – is now complete.

The Schmittenhöhe's opening weekend from radio station "Ö3" on 8 December 2018 provides the perfect opportunity to try out the new areitXpress. In 29 years of service, the old cable car transported around 25 million visitors. The new areitXpress cable cars offer greater comfort and quality, with increased legroom, more comfortable seats, pavement-level boarding and free Wi-Fi for the ascent. The areitXpress has also increased its capacity by 50%, which will significantly reduce waiting times for skiers in future.

Sustainability and Fun on the Slopes

Sustainability and the environment were always at the forefront during building of the areitXpress, as nature is ultimately the best place to build wonderful holiday memories. Such was the consideration given to the Schmitten mountain residents, that the cable car supports were painted green. Anti-glare, marked-out bird protection glass was also used to protect the avian occupants of the Schmitten. In the course of the renovation, the green areas around the tracks were restored to their natural state. It’s hardly surprising that the company received the EMAS prize for the 'Best Environmental Statement of 2017' in June. Individual parts of the former Areitbahn valley station – like the ticketing area, sports shop and information centre on the ground floor – were integrated into the new areitXpress valley station. The tracks remain unchanged, but the new areitXpress mountain station was moved about 25 metres further down into the valley. For skiers, entry to the Areitbahn II and III is planned via an escalator. If you are keen to clip on your skis immediately, you can choose between continuing with the Glocknerbahn or descending via the Schüttabfahrt. The exit to the left leads you directly to the AreitAlm mountain restaurant.
